Make sure fire extinguishers are still intact with the needle in the green zone

Check that exhaust fans are working properly. Replace anything that isn't working immediately.

If it's time for an appliance or lighting upgrade, consider energy-efficient options to help reduce waste and lower your bills. Refer to the Department of Energy for guides to the best home energy improvements.

Thoroughly clean your charcoal or gas grill.

Scrub all your indoor walls — in the bathroom, kitchen, bedrooms and living areas — with a sponge or brush and mild soap and water. This includes baseboards and outlets. Make sure to completely dry outlet covers before replacing.

Pulling your refrigerator away from the wall and gently vacuum behind it so it is getting enough air circulation and the coils are not running too hot.

A lot of homeowners change the direction of their ceiling fan in the winter to better circulate the warm air. Now is a good time to change the direction of the fan to help cool down your house this summer.

Check your gas- and battery-powered lawn equipment to make sure it is ready for summer use. Clean equipment and sharp cutting blades will make yardwork easier. Unplug old spark plugs, drain old gas and oil, and remove old air filters from the year before and replace.

Consider taking the lawnmower blades to a local shop to have them sharpened or even replaced if needed.

Clean your plastic or canvas outdoor furniture.
